There is a story that has been handed down from a long time ago. It involves two soldiers or travelers who made their way, hungry and tired, into a village at nightfall. With only a pot and a stone they built a hearty soup through contributions of the curious and generous villagers.
Ingredients:
Stone – scrubbed and disinfected
Water (you could also use chicken or vegetable stock)
4 cans great white beans OR 4 medium potatoes, cubed
1 lb turkey sausage - browned
1 cup carrots, chopped
1 cup celery, chopped
Bay leaf
Big pinch of dry or fresh basil or sage
Couple cranks of pepper
Chopped parsley
Chopped cilantro
Boullion cube
You can’t go wrong with this soup. Throw in anything that looks like it will add to the heartiness of the soup.
Instructions:
Scrub and disinfect your stone.
Bring water to a boil. Add ingredients and seasonings one at a time. When making a soup you almost can’t go wrong. Add in any vegetables or ingredients that you think might add flavor or bulk to the soup. Rice would be a nice addition if you’re choosing not to use potatoes.
Taste your soup often and add more seasonings (particularly if you’re making this from water instead of stock) when needed.
