Sources of Nutrients in Foods

Vitamins and supplements aren't the only place to get your nutrients. Many common foods are high in nutrients your body needs to function. Use this guide to see what foods to eat, which to avoid and how to supplement your daily diet.

FOODS NUTRIENTS SPICES SUPPLEMENTS AVOID THESE

Shiitake mushrooms (may increase your natural killer T cells)

Vegetables, especially cruciferous ones like cabbage, broccoli, and brussels sprouts

Cocoa and coffee (because of the antioxidants)

Alcohol (in moderation)

Probiotics (in yogurt and digestive aids)
Omega-3 fatty acids (found in olive oil, avocado, fish oils, nuts; also can be taken as supplement)

Resveratrol (found in red wine, grapes, and knotweed plants)

Catechins (found in green tea)

Quercetin (found in onions, tomatoes, garlic, and apples)

Lycopene (found in tomatoes and red grapefruit)
Curcumin

Ginger
Biotin (300 milligrams per day)

B6 (4 milligrams per day) and B12 (800 micrograms per day)

Strontium (340 milligrams per day)
Simple sugars

Syrups

Enriched/non– whole grains

Saturated fats

Trans fats

Alcohol (in excess)

Nonorganic meats

Fish with mercury
