2000—The First Use of the Jarvik-2000: Peter Houghton of England becomes the first person to receive the Jarvik-2000. Developed by Robert Jarvik, the Jarvik-2000 is a tiny device implanted into the heart that may reduce the need for heart transplants in the future. Peter Houghton is still alive today.
