Flex-Foot Leg
1983
After losing his own leg below the knee, Van Phillips invented Flex-Foot, a carbon-graphite leg that would allow him to run again. Today, amputee athletes around the world are setting near-Olympic records with Flex-Foot legs designed for sprinting and other sports. The Flex-Foot prosthesis for walking has vastly improved the quality of life for thousands of people who have lost limbs from accidents, birth defects and disease.
