Artificial Heart
1982
The first permanent artificial heart was designed by Robert Jarvik, Don Olsen and Willem Kolff, and it was implanted by Dr. William DeVries of the University of Utah. The patient, Seattle dentist Barney Clark, survived for 112 days with his silicone and rubber pneumatically driven heart.
