What makes a survivor?
I believe a survivor is a person who chooses to survive, regardless of what the situation may be — cancer limb loss, multiple deaths in the family, etc. These people have an inner spirit where they choose life regardless of the situation.

A support system is really critical, but it is not always there. When you do have it, I think it helps to accelerate the process; when you don't have it, I hope that, to some degree, we can provide it here.

I believe something happens when you become a person with an amputation — you get this inner strength. Those who choose to move on, well, something happens. I don't know what it is. Some people obviously have a happy-go-lucky spirit, and they are going to overcome anything. But there are people who, I think, become a stronger person since having their amputations, and I can't explain that.

What is your hope, your motivation?
It's to allow people to live out their dreams, hopefully, and to pass on the energy that I'm trying to pass on to them.
