However, some health care professionals believe there might be a certain level of protection against the disease for women who start their childbearing early in their menstrual life and have more than one child. In addition, the early diagnosis and treatment of menstrual obstruction may help to prevent or delay the development of endometriosis. Menstrual obstruction occurs when something gets in the way of endometrial tissue sloughing off during menstruation.

Additionally, there is some evidence that long-term contraceptive pill users are less likely to develop endometriosis.
