Natural Relief for Labor Pain

Here are some active, natural tips for dealing with pain during labor:
  • Breathe at a relaxed, controlled pace.
  • Ask for a massage or hug from your labor partner.
  • Focus on something positive.
  • Ask for emotional support from your labor coach.
  • Empty your bladder regularly.
  • Change position frequently, rock in a chair, and walk.
  • Make noise.
  • Think of a peaceful setting, favorite activity, or your baby.
  • Try water massage or Jacuzzi.
  • Apply heat or cold to areas of pain (check with your health-care provider first).
  • Distract yourself: Read, listen to music, watch TV, or solve puzzles.
