Exercise Limitations and Warning Signs During Pregnancy

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, pregnant women with any of the following conditions should not exercise without their doctor's permission:
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Early contractions, or a history of early contractions
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Premature rupture of membranes

If you suddenly experience any of the following while exercising, stop immediately and notify your doctor:

  • Onset of pain anywhere in your body
  • Vaginal bleeding or heavy discharge
  • Dizziness or faintness
  • Increased and pronounced shortness of breath
  • Rapid heartbeat (your heart rate should be no more than 140 beats per minute)
