 World Diabetes Day is Friday, November 14, 2008.
In honor of World Diabetes Day, Discovery Health, Discovery Education, Novo Nordisk and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation launched a call to action campaign entitled, "Young Voices: Life With Diabetes." It was developed to encourage young people with type 1 diabetes to submit a video sharing their diabetes story and letting the next president know what can be done to help end the disease.
<< Click here to view some of the videos submitted. >> While there are many life-changing experiences during the transition from adolescence to adulthood, teens and young adults who live with type 1 diabetes are confronted with unique challenges and crossroads, such as:, "How do I tell my friends at school?"; "How do I tell my boyfriend or girlfriend?"; "How do I get my parents to trust that I can manage my disease without their constant nagging?"; "Will my parents trust that I will be okay in college?" These are just a few examples of obstacles faced along the road to adulthood.
