Could Foods With Tyramine Cause My Migraines?
By Terry Mason
For some people, tyramine, which occurs in
certain foods, can trigger a migraine headache. Tyramine
can be found in:
- aged or processed cheeses
- canned figs
- chicken livers
- organ meats
- nuts
- pickled foods
- red wine and most other alcoholic beverages
- vinegar
- yeast
- yogurt
Moderate amounts of tyramine can also be
found in citrus fruits, raspberries, raisins, and red
plums. If any of these foods trigger your headache, ask
your doctor whether a tyramine-free diet would work for
you.
